Kidneys

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located in the lower back, just beneath the ribcage. They are essential for removing waste products from the body and maintaining the balance of water and chemicals in the bloodstream. The kidneys perform many important functions, such as filtering waste products, controlling blood pressure and producing hormones that help to balance minerals and other compounds in the body. Impaired kidney functioning can lead to a number of health problems such as high blood pressure, oedema, and renal failure. Treatment options may include lifestyle changes, medications or dialysis. Ensuring the health of the kidneys is therefore essential for overall wellbeing.
