Hydronephrosis
Hydronephrosis is a condition in which one or both of the kidneys become swollen due to a build up of urine that is unable to be drained away. It is a potentially dangerous condition due to the build up of pressure on the affected kidney or kidneys, which can lead to kidney damage. Hydronephrosis can have a number of causes, including obstruction of the urinary tract, and is often diagnosed via imaging techniques such as an ultrasound, CT scan or MRI. Treatment for hydronephrosis typically involves addressing the underlying cause, though it may also include medications, surgery, or other treatments to relieve the pressure on the affected kidney. Early diagnosis and treatment is important in order to prevent long-term complications and reduce the risk of permanent damage to the kidneys.
