Enterococcus Faecalis

Enterococcus faecalis is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium. It is typically found in the intestines of humans and other animals and is one of the most common species of the genus Enterococcus. It is an opportunistic pathogen, and infection in humans can lead to urinary tract infections, endocarditis, and other diseases. While not all strains of E. faecalis are pathogenic, the presence of this bacterium can indicate compromised hygiene and the potential for other harmful pathogens. As a result, it is a commonly used indicator for the presence of fecal contamination in food and water. E. faecalis has also been shown to be moderately resistant to some antibiotics, making it a potential source of antimicrobial resistance.
