Traumatic Aortic Disruption
Traumatic aortic disruption is a severe condition that occurs when the aorta, the main artery of the body, is violently damaged due to trauma, usually caused by a high-speed motor vehicle accident. This can lead to massive internal bleeding, shock, and death in a very short time. Early diagnosis and treatment of traumatic aortic disruption are critical. Diagnosis is usually based on physical examination, chest X-ray, and CT scan. Treatment typically involves immediate surgery to repair the aorta and control bleeding. Untreated traumatic aortic disruption is almost always fatal. Early detection and timely treatment are essential to achieve a successful outcome.
