Trauma Pneumonectomy
A trauma pneumonectomy is a surgical procedure in which a lung, or part of a lung, is removed due to severe trauma or injury. It is a complex procedure and is usually only considered when other treatments are not viable. This surgery offers the potential for improved lung function and better breathing for the patient. It is often used in cases of chest trauma, such as a gunshot wound or rib fracture, or in cases of lesions or other tissue damage in the lung. A trauma pneumonectomy can be used to reduce the risk of infections and help to improve the overall quality of life of the patient. It also helps to reduce the risk of further damage or complications in the affected organ or body part.
