Physical Disability
Physical disability is an impairment of physical or motor ability resulting in a lack of full functioning of one or more body parts. These disabilities can be caused by birth, illness, injury, or environmental factors. People with physical disabilities often require assistive devices or modifications to their environment to improve their quality of life and increase their independence. Examples of physical disabilities include cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and arthritis. Physical disability can have a significant impact on a person’s life, resulting in barriers that limit access to work, education, and leisure pursuits, as well as difficulties with daily tasks and social integration. Fortunately, advances in technology and medical care have led to greatly improved quality of life for individuals with physical disability, allowing them to participate more fully in all aspects of life.
