Multiple Traumas
Multiple traumas are injuries to the body sustained from a single violent event or multiple incidents of violence over a period of time. They can range from minor scrapes and bruises to major internal organ damage, fractures or death. Multiple traumas are especially significant because they can cause serious short and long-term physical, psychological and social effects, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain, disability, and social isolation. Treatment is best done through a multi-disciplinary approach, involving medical, psychological, and social professionals. Early intervention and ongoing care can help minimise these effects and improve quality of life.
