Ingrown Toenail

An ingrown toenail is a common condition where the edge of the toenail grows into the surrounding soft flesh. It is often caused by improper trimming, tight-fitting shoes, or trauma to the toe. Symptoms of an ingrown toenail can include redness, swelling, pain, and infection. Treatment includes soaking the foot in warm water, applying antibiotic ointment, and trimming the ingrown nail. In more severe cases, a doctor may need to surgically remove part of the nail. Proper preventative measures such as correct shoe fit and correct trimming techniques should be followed to prevent ingrown toenails from developing.
