Claw Toe

Claw toe, also known as mallet toe, is a deformity affecting the toes. In people with claw toe, the toes are bent into a claw or hammer position, with the end of the toe pointing downwards and the middle of the toe bent upwards. It is usually caused by wearing tight or ill-fitting shoes, or due to a structural abnormality in the foot. Claw toe can cause pain, discomfort, and pressure on the toes and foot, making walking difficult. Treatment for claw toe depends on the severity and can include splinting, physical therapy and in some cases, surgical intervention. Treatment is important to prevent further deformity and further pain and discomfort.
