Bunions
Bunions are bony, painful bumps that develop at the joint of the big toe and the foot. They are caused by excessive pressure that is put on the joint due to deformed or misaligned foot structure. They can cause foot pain and difficulty in walking or standing. Bunions can be prevented by wearing appropriate footwear that fits properly, and by avoiding activities that put too much pressure on the joint like dancing or running. Treatment methods include wearing orthotic devices such as shoe inserts and corrective shoes, icing the joint, taking pain relievers, and if severe, surgery. Proper prevention and treatment of bunions are important to prevent long-term complications such as mobility loss or even disability.
