Ankle Sprains

Ankle sprains are injuries to one or more of the ligaments of the ankle that often occur when a person is running or playing sports. These sprains occur when a person moves in an awkward way that stretches and tears the ligaments in the ankle. The severity of the sprain can range from mild to severe, depending on the extent of the ligament damage. Severe sprains can cause instability and lack of balance in the foot and ankle, which can limit the range of motion and mobility of the ankle. There are various treatments available to reduce the pain and swelling of the ankle and to restore strength and mobility, including physical therapy and bracing. Because of its prevalence and impact on mobility, proper treatment of ankle sprains is essential for maintaining overall foot and ankle health.
