Polyomaviruses

Polyomaviruses are a family of small, double-stranded DNA viruses. They are known to infect a wide variety of animals, including humans. In humans, they are typically responsible for a variety of diseases, including warts, skin infections, and respiratory tract infections. They can also cause serious complications in immunocompromised individuals, such as those with HIV/AIDS. Polyomaviruses are important to study as they can provide insight into how our immune system works and how it defends against viruses. In addition, they may have potential applications in vaccine development and cancer therapies.
