Pestivirus
Pestiviruses are a family of viruses that cause a variety of diseases in animals. They are important economically, as they often affect livestock, resulting in significant losses in production. In humans, they are associated with various illnesses, including fever, flu-like symptoms, and skin rashes. The most well-known pestivirus is bovine viral diarrhea virus, which affects cattle and can cause severe damage to their productivity and health. Pestiviruses can also affect wild populations and lead to increased mortality rates in some species, such as deer and wild boar. Diagnosis and control of pestivirus infections, including vaccinations, are critical for animal health management and protection against global pandemics.
