Marine Mammals

Marine mammals are a diverse group of mammals that have adapted to a life in the ocean. These animals, some of which include whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals, sea lions, and manatees, are well known for their intelligence and adaptability, and have been studied as models for research into the physiology and behaviour of other animals. Not only have they been of great scientific interest, but marine mammals also have a strong cultural presence due to their popularity as symbols of conservation and entertainment. Marine mammals are important to marine ecosystems, providing essential links in the food chain and playing a role in the balance of these habitats. Humans also benefit from their presence, through activities such as whale-watching, eco-tourism and interactions with marine mammals in captivity.
