Mammal Communication
Mammals are a group of animals with a highly developed communication system. Mammals use vocalizations, body language, and scent marking to communicate with one another. Vocalizations include growls, barks, purrs, and whines. Body language includes facial expressions and posturing, such as standing upright, flicking the ears, or flattening the fur. Scent marking includes using pheromones to identify and establish territories or to attract a mate. Through communication, mammals are able to interact with each other in complex ways, reinforcing social bonds and establishing hierarchies. It also enables them to form cooperative groups for cooperative activities such as foraging for food. As a result of their communication capabilities, mammals are adaptable and highly social creatures that inhabit a variety of habitats.
