Gametocytes

Gametocytes are cells which contain the male or female gametes (sexual reproductive cells) in most organisms that reproduce sexually. They are important because they are involved in the process of sexual reproduction. Gametocytes typically form in the gonads (ovaries and testes) of mammals and in the ovaries of other organisms. During fertilization, the male and female gametocytes come into contact, and the resulting zygote will grow into a new organism. Gametocytes can also be used in medical research, as they offer a useful source of genetic material for studying the effects of various treatments.
