Fruit Bats

Fruit bats (Chiroptera) are a type of megabat native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, particularly in South and Southeast Asia. While they have long been known to feed predominantly on fruits, these bats also consume large amounts of nectar, pollen and leaves. Fruit bats play an important role in their ecosystems by dispersing seeds for plants, resulting in increased vegetation growth. They are also a vital part of many cultures and are considered to bring good fortune, as well as providing important resources for human communities, such as food, medicine and craft materials. As a result, conservation efforts are necessary in order to protect these valuable species.
