Endometrium

The endometrium is the inner lining of the uterus. It is made up of a layer of specialized cells that prepare for the implantation of a fertilized egg. In addition, it is responsible for the shedding of the lining in the form of menstrual bleeding. Endometrium plays an important role in female fertility and reproductive health, as it determines the success of implantation and pregnancy. Endometrium also contributes to successful embryo development during pregnancy by providing a nurturing environment and supplying the necessary nutrients for growth. Furthermore, irregularities in the endometrium can cause infertility and other reproductive issues such as dysmenorrhea and endometriosis. In order to address such issues, endometrial biopsy and/or hysteroscopy are often employed as diagnostic procedures. An understanding of the endometrium’s structure and function is essential for the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions related to the female reproductive system.
