Bovine Mastitis
Bovine Mastitis is an inflammatory condition of the udder of dairy cows caused by bacterial infection. It is the most common and costly disease of dairy cows, leading to economic loss for farmers through reduced milk production and increased costs for treatment. Mastitis can also cause pain and distress in the cows, making prevention and early detection vital. Various strategies have been developed to reduce the occurrence of mastitis, including improved hygiene and milking technique, avoiding overcrowding, and vaccination. Detecting mastitis in the early stages is important to prevent more severe cases, and can be done by visual inspection, somatic cell count, and cow-side tests.
