Bornean Orangutans
Bornean Orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) are an endangered species of great ape native to the rainforests of the island of Borneo. They are highly intelligent, social animals, and play an important role in their ecosystems due to their elaborate foraging and seed dispersal behaviors. Bornean Orangutans are critically endangered, facing threats from habitat destruction and the illegal wildlife trade. Conservation efforts are needed to ensure their survival. Bornean Orangutans can create a better understanding of human evolution and ecology, and support local rainforest economies through eco-tourism. Protecting this species is essential for the ecosystems, biodiversity and sustainability of the island of Borneo.
