Symptoms of Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is a form of cancer that affects the lungs and is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. Lung cancer is associated with a variety of symptoms, including a persistent cough, struggling to catch one's breath, coughing up blood, chest pain, hoarseness and swelling of the face and neck. Other symptoms may include fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, recurrent infections, and difficulty swallowing. Diagnosis of lung cancer is based on a variety of tests, including physical examinations, CT scans, x-rays, and biopsies. Treatment varies depending on the stage and type of lung cancer, but may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or a combination of these. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve outcomes and help individuals live longer, healthier lives.
