Lymphocytes
Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell produced by the immune system. They play a key role in helping the body to fight off infections and disease, by detecting and destroying foreign objects such as bacteria and viruses. Lymphocytes can also produce antibodies, which are proteins designed to recognize and bind to a specific target, aiding in the recognition and destruction of the target. Lymphocytes are essential for the maintenance of a healthy immune system, and low numbers of lymphocytes in the body can significantly decrease the body's ability to fight off disease.
