Lung Cancer Risk Communication
Lung cancer risk communication involves discussing the risks related to cigarette smoking and other sources of exposure to carcinogens and other substances known to increase the risk of developing lung cancer. It is an important part of informing individuals about the dangers of smoking and encouraging them to quit, since lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. By communicating the risks associated with smoking, individuals may be more likely to consider giving it up and reducing the burden of the disease in their own lives and in the population at large. This communication should be tailored to the individual, taking into account their level of knowledge, beliefs, and personal situation. Risk communication can also be used to inform individuals of other methods of reducing their risk, such as limiting indoor air pollution, avoiding secondhand smoke, and reducing exposure to other carcinogens.
