Word recognition is the ability to identify and understand written words. It is an essential part of literacy, as it allows readers to make meaningful connections between words and ideas. Word recognition requires familiarity with the alphabetic principle and an understanding of the relationships between letters and sounds. Developing strong word recognition skills is essential for reading fluency and comprehension. There are many ways to improve word recognition, including recognizing word patterns, using phonics and multisensory instruction, and reading for meaning.
