Phonemes

Phonemes are the smallest units of meaning or sound in language. They are the basic building blocks of language, and can be used to distinguish between two words of similar sound, such as “cat” and “rat.” Phonemes are significant in many fields, such as linguistics and speech therapy, as they are used to define the characteristics of different languages and to diagnose, treat, and manage communication disorders. In addition, phonemes are fundamental in teaching languages, as they allow learners to identify and form the correct sounds. As such, understanding and mastering phonemes is the first step towards fluency.
