Language Acquisition
Language acquisition is the process by which a person acquires the ability to understand, produce, and use language to communicate. The acquisition of language is essential for humans to manipulate their social and physical environment and to interact with others. For children, language acquisition is incredibly fast and efficient, with the majority of children able to speak fluently by the age of six. For adults, language acquisition can take much longer and can require deliberate practice and effort. It is also important for individuals to be immersed in the language and to practice everyday conversations in order to become proficient. Learning a language can benefit individuals in many ways including improved job opportunities, increased cultural understanding, and increased brainpower.
