the Evolution of Birds
Birds are some of the most diverse animals on earth and their evolution has been a long and complex process. The evolutionary history of birds dates back 150 million years and is strongly linked to the rise of modern-day mammals. Through a process of natural selection and adaptive radiation, birds have adapted over time to a variety of habitats and environments. Today, birds occupy a unique ecological niche in many different ecosystems, from ocean to desert, and from the Arctic to the tropics. The evolutionary history of birds has helped researchers to better understand how species adapt and how these adaptations can help people better manage their ecosystems. Birds also play an important role in their environments, acting as pollinators, seed dispersers, and also providing essential services to humans, such as controlling insect populations.
