Taxonomy, Birds
Taxonomy is the science of classifying, describing and naming organisms. Birds are some of the most studied organisms in the world due to their wide variety of species, shapes, sizes, habitats and behaviour. By using taxonomy, scientists are able to identify the different species of birds, and the different relationships between them. This helps us to understand the diversity of the avian world, and the biology and ecology of birds. Taxonomy is also used to protect birds from extinction by helping to identify and protect threatened species, as well as monitoring their populations. In addition, taxonomy helps to ensure the conservation of biodiversity, and to inform species-specific management and research.
