Sexual Dimorphism

Sexual dimorphism is a phenomenon whereby members of a species, usually animals, display different physical traits based on their sex. This usually involves differences in size, color, and other physiological characteristics. Sexual dimorphism is a common feature of the animal kingdom, and is thought to have evolved as a means of increasing species’ chances of surviving and reproducing. It can also help members of a species to find a mate more easily, and can even allow individuals to hide from predators. Sexual dimorphism can also provide insight into evolutionary processes, as it can indicate when a species is undergoing change or adaptation. Finally, understanding sexual dimorphism can help scientists better understand the behavior of certain animals and how they interact with each other.
