Orinthology
Ornithology is the study of birds, including their natural histories, distributions, habitats, physical characteristics, behaviours, and interactions with humans. It is a subfield of zoology, the scientific study of animals. Understanding the biology of birds is essential for the conservation of rare and migratory species, as well as common ones found in our backyards. Ornithologists study the evolution, behaviour, ecology and physiology of birds, helping to answer questions about the value of birds in our world. Ornithology is also an important part of avian-assisted control of vector-borne diseases, as some birds feed on and can control the populations of insects that carry disease-causing organisms. Additionally, ornithology allows us to identify new species and better understand bird migrations, population dynamics, and the impacts of climate change on bird species. Through ornithology, we can better understand our environment and the birds that live in it.
