Feathers, Birds

Feathers are an evolutionary adaptation found in birds that are composed of keratin and are used for warmth, waterproofing, and flight. In addition, feathers provide birds with an aerodynamic shape and increased agility when in the air. As feathers are lightweight and strong, they enable birds to soar through the air with ease. Feathers also provide birds with camouflage and enable them to communicate with other birds through their colors and patterns. Through their many functions, feathers are essential for the survival of many species of birds, making them one of the most important adaptations in birds.
