Bird Feather

Bird feathers are structures of the integumentary system of birds that provide protection, insulation, and display coloration. They are composed of keratin and pigments, and are formed in follicles in the skin. Feathers are the defining characteristic of birds and are the primary adaptation that allowed for their domination of the skies over land animals. They are used for a variety of purposes, including protection during flight and predation, insulation, display and communication. The presence of feathers has also been integral to the success of human activities such as hunting and falconry, and feathers are also commonly used in the making of clothing, decorative items, and crafts.
