Bird Banding

Bird banding is a scientific practice used to study the ecology and movements of wild birds. It involves the application of a small, uniquely numbered metal or plastic band to a bird’s leg or wing. The band is used to identify the bird and to monitor its movements over time. By tracking the movement of individual birds, scientists can gain insights into bird behavior and population dynamics. The data gathered through bird banding is also used to inform conservation efforts, as well as to assess the effects of environmental change and climate change on bird populations. Bird banding is a safe and efficient technique used to gain an understanding of bird populations and inform effective conservation strategies.
