Skates and Rays

Skates and rays are a group of fish belonging to the order Rajiformes, which are found throughout the world's oceans. They are characterized by their flattened bodies, pointed snouts, and wings-like fins, and often have a clasper for mating. They are economically important for fisheries and aquaculture operations. Skates and ray are also ecologically important predators, controlling populations of smaller prey species, as well as providing important habitat for other species. Skates, particularly in some locations, are also an important part of recreational fisheries. Furthermore, they are an iconic species that plays an important role in local cultures and folklore.
