Shores

Shores are defined by coastal geomorphologists as elongated, linear features along the land-water interface. They are usually composed of sand, rocks, gravel, cobbles, or other sediments and are formed through wave erosion and deposition processes. Shores provide a major source of recreational and leisure activities, such as swimming, fishing, walking, and boating. They also act as natural barriers to protect the coast from wave energy and protect against coastal flooding. In addition to their protective role, shores are also important habitats for marine life and provide important ecosystem services such as food, cleansing of contaminants in the water, and carbon sequestration. Shores can also support tourism activities, providing economic benefits to the local economy.
