Sea Level Rise
Sea level rise (SLR) is the process of global sea levels increasing due to thermal expansion of seawater and the melting of ice sheets and glaciers. SLR is significant because it has far-reaching consequences, such as coastal flooding and the displacement of populations, and it is a major global concern due to its potential implications for human well-being, biodiversity, and the global economy. Despite its impacts, SLR also has some potential uses such as providing new saltwater habitats for species, as well as increasing access to renewable energy through tidal and wave power. To mitigate SLR, it is important to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to implement methods of adaptation to predicted SLR impacts.
