Ocean Engineering

Ocean engineering is a branch of engineering dealing with the design, construction and installation of machines, structures and systems in the ocean in order to exploit its resources, protect coastal areas from hazards, improve safety and aid navigation. It is largely concerned with the development of new technologies and methods for exploration, exploitation and conservation of the ocean environment. Ocean engineering has applications in marine transportation, oil and gas production, nuclear power, ocean mining, fish farming, defense and security, naval architecture, ocean observation for climate research, marine robots and more. Ocean engineering is important for advances in maritime technology, coastal protection, ocean energy production, and improvement in ocean resource utilization and management.
