Lampreys
Lampreys are a type of fish that belong to the genus Petromyzontidae. They are primitive, jawless fish that are found in both fresh and saltwater habitats. Lampreys have a cartilaginous skeleton and lack scales, and some species have a specialized mouth and tongue-like organ for attaching and feeding on other fish. Lampreys play an important ecological role as both predators and prey in aquatic ecosystems, providing food for higher predators such as birds, and helping to recycle nutrients and control population size. They are also harvested for both human consumption and the aquaculture industry, and some species are considered a delicacy in certain cultures around the world.
