Ichthyoplankton Behaviour
Ichthyoplankton, a term for small fish and their larval stages, influences the behavioural patterns of the marine food web. It is an important source of food for many fish species and its behavior helps to understand the magnitude of their migratory patterns, as well as the impact of human activities on the marine ecosystem. Ichthyoplankton behaviour is also used in fisheries management to assess the potential fish populations and trophic relationships in the ecosystem. Furthermore, it assists in the identification of nursery areas, trophic distributions and recruitment of fish. By understanding Ichthyoplankton behaviour, conservation efforts could be better implemented to reduce human-mediated stressors in the marine environment and to protect the fish populations.
