Hemichordata
Hemichordata is a phylum of marine animals that includes the acorn worms, rag worms, pouch worms, lancelets, and sea squirts. They are found in a wide range of marine habitats and have an evolutionary history spanning more than 500 million years. Hemichordates are important components of marine ecosystems, serving as an essential link in the food chain as well as a source of food for other species. They also offer invaluable insight into the evolution of chordates, the group of animals that includes vertebrates like humans. Hemichordates are studied in the fields of evolutionary biology, zoology, and ecology, providing insight into the processes of biological diversification and adaptation.
