Genetics

Genetics is the study of how certain traits are passed from one generation to another. It is important for understanding the basis of inherited diseases and other health-related issues, as well as for making improvements to crops and livestock. Genetics is used in medicine to diagnose and treat many conditions, such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, and Huntington's disease. By studying genetics, scientists are also able to better understand development, evolution, and diversity in organisms. In addition, the field has applications in biotechnology, in the commercial production of medications, food, and other products.
