Dinoflagellates
Dinoflagellates are a type of single-celled photosynthetic organism that play an important role in aquatic ecosystems. They are found in oceans and freshwater environments around the world and are a significant source of food for a variety of marine organisms. Dinoflagellates are also capable of producing toxins that can cause harmful algal blooms and beach closures. Recent research has demonstrated the importance of environmental conditions, such as temperature and nutrients, on dinoflagellate abundance. As global temperatures continue to rise, dinoflagellate populations are expected to increase, threatening aquatic food webs and public health.
