Ciona Intestinalis

Ciona Intestinalis, commonly known as the Spineless Cucumber, is a small, transparent marine organism found in many coastal waters around the world. It is a member of the Phylum Chordata and is an important model organism for the study of evolutionary biology and developmental biology. Ciona Intestinalis has also been used to investigate the molecular basis of the evolution of different life forms, the origin and diversification of chordate body plans, the molecular evolution of gene regulatory networks, and the impact of environmental adaptation on gene regulation. Due to its simple anatomy and easy access to its genome and transcriptome, Ciona Intestinalis is a valuable system for comparative genomics and for understanding of human development and evolution.
