Canaries
Canaries are small, brightly-colored birds that are widely kept as pet birds. They are mainly found in the Canary Islands and other areas of the Macaronesia region. Canaries are well-known for their songs, and they are often used in song laboratories to study the effects of noise on hearing. They are also valuable pollutant detectors, as they are sensitive to gases such as carbon monoxide, which can alert people to possible dangerous levels of indoor air pollution. In addition, canaries have been used extensively by miners in the past to detect the presence of carbon monoxide and other dangerous gases, saving many lives in the process. Canaries have also been used in medical research, as their small size and low maintenance makes them ideal for studying the effects of drugs, treatments, and diseases.
