Brachiopods
Brachiopods are a type of invertebrate marine animal, which is commonly found in shallow waters. They have a hard shell and two sets of symmetrical valves, which open and close. They are filter feeders, and as such are an important part of the food chain. Brachiopods have been in existence for over 500 million years and have been used to study past climate and environment. Their shells can be used to help determine the age of rocks and can also be used as a source of organic material. Brachiopods are an important member of the biodiversity, and play a key role in providing a healthy and resilient ocean environment.
