Aquatic Insects
Aquatic insects are small invertebrates that live in or around water. They play an essential role in healthy aquatic ecosystems, providing essential services such as nutrient cycling and food for fishes and other aquatic organisms. Additionally, they act as indicators of water quality and are important for the control of waterborne disease vectors. Aquatic insects are also a valuable food source for humans, as well as being used as animal feed, in bait and as a source of many biotechnological products. They are of great ecological and economic importance and their preservation is critical for the conservation of aquatic ecosystems, for human health and for livelihoods across the world.
