Treatment of Vascular Disease and Its Sequelae
Vascular disease involves abnormalities of the blood vessels, including those that supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart, brain, and other organs. Treatment of vascular disease and its sequelae involves a variety of methods, from lifestyle changes to medications and procedures. The goal of treating vascular disease is to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and reduce one’s risk of developing more serious complications. Lifestyle modifications such as exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and not smoking are important first steps. Medications such as antiplatelet agents, statins, and blood pressure medications are also important. In some cases, procedures such as angioplasty, stenting, and bypass surgery may be used if needed. A combined approach of lifestyle modifications and medications can be effective in managing the symptoms and preventing long-term complications of vascular disease and its sequelae.
