Lymphedema
Lymphedema is a medical condition characterized by swelling caused by a build-up of lymph fluid in the body’s tissues. This condition can affect any part of the body, from the arms and legs to internal organs. It is caused by a disruption in the lymphatic system, which is responsible for draining and filtering out unwanted substances from the body. Lymphedema is often associated with cancer, as the removal of lymph nodes can interfere with the proper drainage of lymph fluid. However, lymphedema can also be caused by surgery, radiation, infection, injury, and other medical conditions. Treatments typically involve a combination of exercises, compression garments, skin care, and manual lymphatic drainage. It is important to receive the proper diagnosis and treatment, as left untreated, lymphedema can lead to skin infections, difficulty with mobility, and other serious health complications.
