Carotid Endarterectomy - Surgery for Stroke Prevention
Carotid Endarterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove plaque buildup from the carotid artery. It is mainly used for stroke prevention and is an effective treatment for certain types of strokes. This procedure is performed through a small incision in the neck and involves the removal of fatty deposits (plaque) from the inner walls of the carotid artery. This helps to reduce the risk of stroke, which can be devastating and disabling. The procedure is usually recommended for individuals whose carotid arteries are severely narrowed with blockages, or those who have had a stroke due to a blood clot or narrowing of the carotid artery. Carotid Endarterectomy can significantly reduce the risk of stroke in these individuals and is considered an effective treatment for stroke prevention.
