Autoimmune Diseases
Autoimmune diseases are medical conditions in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells. Such diseases can affect multiple organs and lead to serious health consequences if not diagnosed and treated properly. Examples of autoimmune diseases include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, and multiple sclerosis. Treatment for autoimmune diseases may include medications, lifestyle changes, physical therapy and surgery to help manage symptoms. With early diagnosis and treatment, many autoimmune diseases can be managed so that individuals with these conditions can lead normal and productive lives.
